I’ve always found these sort of books, or even movies more interesting when the POV is from a younger character. I really want to read something where it’s a character witnessing addiction of a family member or parent. Rather than it being from the POV of an addict themself.

Beautiful Boy by David Sheff is a father’s story about his son’s addiction.
Tweak by Nic Sheff is his son’s book about his own addiction.
These are all related to alcohol abuse, but that is an addiction nonetheless:
– Blackout: Remembering The Things I Drank to Forget by Sarah Hepola (touches a lot on how her addiction affected everyone in her life)
– Drinking: A Love Story by Caroline Knapp
– Drinking Games by Sarah Levy
– All That You Leave Behind by Erin Lee Carr (this one specifically entails a child dealing with the ramifications of their father’s alcoholism)
Lullabies for little Criminals
It’s exactly what you’re asking for. Growing up around addiction. Highly recommend
Demon copperhead is very very good and has it from all angles.
