I know this is a specific request. I just finished a manga my friend lent me called Helter Skelter: Fashion Unfriendly.
I’m trying to find regular (non-manga / comic) books with stories in the same realm as Kyoko Okazaki’s: works with messages along the lines of critiquing / warning about beauty culture (modeling, diet culture, fear of aging, unhealthy societal pressures, etc.).
I don’t mind whether it’s fiction or nonfiction (nor do I care whether the POV is female, male, non-binary, trans, etc.). I’m open to most genres.
Would anyone have some suggestions?
*** (I also would like to add that I’m above the age of 20. So I’m okay with heavier reading material if anyone has more intense story suggestions) ***
