I’m currently reading *In Cold Blood* by Truman Capote. While I’m enjoying the read, I can’t help but wonder how true-to-life the dialogue is. Some dialogue, like between the murderers, seem impossible to transcribe verbatim.
Does that mean Capote used artistic license to write some of the dialogue? How is that compatible with the “nonfiction” label?
Just trying to understand the extent of artistic license used by Capote (and other nonfiction authors).
