I’m about a third of the way through. I’m liking it but it’s a tough read.
The protagonist is just one wince-fest after another and I’m so, SO uncomfortable reading her POV.
I’m wondering is she supposed to be so incredibly unlikeable? I don’t even mean the thievery and the casual, mortifying racism. Or even the self-justification.
But to me she has absolutely no redeeming qualities. None. Is that on purpose? A part of me thinks I’d have felt even more uncomfortable if she’d been a better person? If she’s not been such a pantomime villain with not likeable traits. As it is, it’s almost easy to put her in the OTT villain box, where no moral compass has gone before.
