Seriously – this book has an average of 4.28 stars on goodreads and won a goodreads choice award – however it’s one of the worst books I’ve ever read! The first was barely passable, and I only read the second because I accidentally bought it mistaking it for the first (don’t even ask how)

The writing is sloppy, the plot feels like it was made up as the author went along, and the entire plot is dismissed as the MC at the end even ACKNOWLEDGES the victim could’ve been overdosed this entire time and it would’ve been easier…
Don’t get me started on the “villain” Wendy. Her motivations are: I’m an asshole and that’s just how I am! She doesn’t talk like a human, she just SAYS she’s a horrible person and DOESNT justify her thoughts and motives AT ALL.
Starting to think an AI wrote this book actually.

ANNOYINGLY at the end of all these housemaid books, the police KNOW and even ACKNOWLEDGE somebody got murdered by the MC and they let it slide…?

I don’t think I’ll ever read another book from this author again, especially since there’s rumours that she plagiarised some of her books.

All of McFadden’s books are airport books. They are not bad, but they are certainly not good either. A very “turn off your brain, look at words, finish the book in one sitting and go next” vibe. Nothing wrong with it and it does that just fine, but if you aren’t prepared for that and you’re expecting more, I can see how you might be disappointed.

Perhaps pick them up if you are in a slum or you just don’t want to think than taking the book seriously. If you have the right expectations, they can be enjoyable, but yeah, I don’t think it deserves 4.28 rating either!
