The subject of extreme longing has always been in my mind and I never really could find a book that also tackles this. While romance books are abundant, I’ve always wanted to look for a book that mainly showed yearning and longing and maybe its effects on a person/story/life. I always do like books that analyze the concept of love.

Bryce Courtenay is the author you want to check out. All of his books have that tone to them, with “fishing for stars” and “the persimmon tree” being two of the best.
