I love lesbian representation that doesn’t focus on romance alone, Gothic horror, short stories, horror, magical realism, contemporary, Japanese literature and Taiwanese literature. Some of my favourite authors are Qiu Miaojin, Sayaka Murata, Kirsty Logan, Sarah Waters, Helen Oyeyemi, Shirley Jackson, Nghi Vo, and Virginia Woolf.

    1. Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel García Márquez. I read this in 2001 after someone gifted it to me, I am rereading it now and it’s so beautifully written, this is quintessential magical realism.

    2. What about Her Body and Other Parties (short stories) and In The Dream House (memoir) by Carmen Maria Machado? Both have queer and gothic/horror elements. I feel like they’d both be something you’d enjoy.

    3. For queer representation and magical realism highly, highly recommend Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson. It’s hilarious and queer and just absolutely delightful. The audiobook is also one of the best I’ve ever listened to (it won a bunch of awards), if you’re interested in consuming books that way.

Have you read Alex E. Harrow? It’s not explicitly queer – her MCs are hetero but she often has sapphic representation and she’s just an incredible storyteller.

I recommend The Once and Future Witches to start
