I had just finished The Count of Monte Cristo and boy, was it a journey. I know this book has been discussed here several times, but I have to share my enthusiasm with it. It is the biggest book I’ve ever read and at the moment I’ve struggled with it, but only when it would go weeks when I wouldn’t even touch the book because I was writing my masters.
So my advice is to read this book at your own pace, but don’t put it down for several days or weeks because it’s going to be a little challenging to remember all the characters and who’s bad or not. So I highly recommend writing a character list, so you’ll follow the story easily.
And this book has it all: romance, action, revenge/justice, friendship, human relationships overall. It’s a book that offers a deep dive into human nature in the best way possible.
If I could compare Edmond Dantes to any epic character, it would be Eren Yeager from Attack on Titan. Just like in AOT, there is room for discussion about whether what they’ve done is completely justified or not, but there is no denying that both of them did what they felt in the core of their souls they had to do. Truly a literary masterpiece and an unforgettable journey Alexander Dumas created.
