So many! I like the light and funny Lindsay Anderson ones [detective] for bedtime reading – they are a fun read but based on good research. The ‘Falco’ series.
Well written and well researched; Simon Scarrow [Roman army series], Stephen Saylor [mostly the Republic period, but not all], and Kate Quinn’s Empress of Rome series is extremely good – one of these, Daughters of Rome, does the Year of the Four Emperors.
Don’t be put off by the ghastly cover art which makes them look like Mills and Boon/Harlequin romances; they are extremely well written and accurate.
