I need a recommendation for some good, off the beaten path, southern gothic, grit lit. I’m pretty well versed in this genre, but I’m looking for something specifically in Appalachia or nearby, but still gritty and dark. Please no Hillbilly Elegy. Also, I’ve read all of a David Joy, Donald Ray Pollack, and McCarthy. Just need some fresh ideas. Thanks!

More crime fiction than Gothic, but you might check out S. A. Crosby.
As I Lay Dying. Not off the beaten path, and set in the flatter-terrain south presumably, but it’s a classic for a reason. Distinctly southern gothic. Grotesque, gritty, and deep.
