You might want to check out the various writings of a man most commonly known as “Saint Augustine”. Here’s a solid Wiki article: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augustine_of_Hippo](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Augustine_of_Hippo)

      And a relevant quote:

      >His writings influenced the development of Western philosophy and Western Christianity, and he is viewed as one of the most important Church Fathers of the Latin Church in the Patristic Period. His many important works include The City of God, On Christian Doctrine, and Confessions.

Some common Christian ideas about things that are never strictly defined/described in the New Testament come from his writings.

I’ve only read “Confessions”, but it was easy to see his influence on Christianity and Christian thinking.

It depends on what your interest is. Are you interested in expanding your knowledge in Christian studies? Religious studies? Theology? Philosophy?

If you’re interested in just the Christian faith, I would suggest reading through the Apocrypha if you haven’t already, and perhaps other biblically inspired works like Paradise Lost and The Divine Comedy. There’s also a book called Reading the Bible Again for the First Time by Marcus J. Borg that I found pretty illuminating.

If you’re interested in Christian theology and philosophy, I would suggest works by Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, Martin Luther, as well as CS Lewis’ Mere Christianity, Keirkegaard’s Fear and Trembling, Russell’s Why I Am Not A Christian and Nietzche’s Antichrist.

If you’re generally interested in exploring many different religions, I would suggest the Torah, the Qu’ran, the Mahabharata, the Rig Vedas, Old Path White Clouds, The Zen Sourcebook, the Tao Te Ching, Basic Judaism by Milton Steinberg and then work your way from there.
