I just love stories about people being stuck in a certain cryptic location. It’s such a fun sub-genre and plot device. Bunkers like in the Silo series or 12 Cloverfield Lane, polar research stations like The Thing, space stations or colony ships, the 19th century ships from The Terror, or even larger areas like the island from Lost or Area X from the Southern Reach trilogy. Or very small areas — the office for the innies in Severance.
They can escape, they can stay stuck. As long as they are trapped and there is at least a little bit of mystery about the location it’ll do it for me. Bonus points if the area invokes an uneasy feeling.
I tagged this sci-fi/fantasy as that’s what these kind of stories tend to be but I’m open to any genre. Thanks!
