I thought I need to read more easy/romance books, so bought one Debbie Macomber book “Thursdays at eight” and I struggle to read it so much! The story seems to be interesting, but only the fact that it is not real story and all those characters are made up – stopping me from immersing into the book.
On the other hand we have Elizabeth Gilbert’s “Eat pray love”, which I know is the writer’s story and I just LOVE reading it!
Even tho both books are based on women’s life story, their struggles and challenges, but one I just can’t seem to read only because it is not a real story, anyone dealing with the same issue? Why is that!

Maybe romance isn’t for you. Who knows?
Are you saying you prefer to read memoir? Because that’s perfectly valid. There are millions of memoirs to keep you occupied. You can learn a lot about people and history that way.
That’s fine, there’s enough memoirs out there to last you a lifetime.
It sounds like you’re just a very literal person, and that’s okay.
Fiction is metaphor, and it uses the stories often to tell truths about the world even if it didn’t literally happen.
But you can read whatever you want. I don’t like mushrooms. You might like mushrooms. It’s how the world turns. Preferences are inexplicable.
What if you tried reading fiction that was good?
I have the same issue. If it is not nonfiction, I struggle to read it. For the last few years, I have been trying to include two or three fiction books in my reading list.
This isn’t a judgement or anything, but to do only like documentary films? Or films based on a true story? Do you like tv shows that are fictional? If so, I’m just interested in what you feel is the difference between those and books.
