I just moved to a brand new city and I’m spending the weekend almost completely alone. I want to buy a book and become completely engrossed in this weekend but I need recs! I’ll buy and read the highest upvoted book.
EDIT: My main genres of interest are sci-fi and literary fiction. But right now I’m reallyyy feeling books about friendships or your favorite translated book.

Good plan! Just need a few more details or preferences to frame your wants so folks can answer. Otherwise, could be a lot of Charlotte’s Web suggestions.
Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels. There’s a ton of them and they can be read in pretty much any order. If you liked “Good Omens” then you’ll love Terry Pratchett.
Fellowship of the Ring
East of Eden by John Steinbeck. 🤍
Good edit! I suggest: Three-Body Problem by Liu Cixin.
[The Timekeeper’s Conspiracy](https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B08769MR4D/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?ie=UTF8&qid=1705716481&sr=8-1)
Leviathan Wakes. Its like true Detective mixed with star wars.
Have you read any Alastair Reynolds if you love sci fi?
I love his Revelation Space series, The Prefect, and his excellent anthology Beyond the Aquila Rift!
Based on a True Story, by Norm Macdonald. There’s a laugh to be had after every page
The Neapolitan novels by Elena Ferrante, translated from Italian and about friendship.
Becky Chambers will hit the spot for engrossing Sci fi and friendships. A Long way to a Small Angry Planet is where to start.
The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared
Anxious People!!! (Exclamations are my own)
Swedish translated novel about a bank robbery gone wrong. Turns into a comical yet VERY heartwarming story about redemption and giving people the benefit of the doubt. I loved it and cried and it’s both funny yet very moving.
Magic Mountain, Thomas Mann.
