The translator did a fine job and I like Calvino’s prose, however there a lot of storylines and book beginnings mixed in. Some of them blend in to the story arc and you kind of forget what is real and which are the book in a book. It is also told in a strange narrative style that changes around and is supposed to involve the reader. Some of the partial books that the reader finds would have been great novels were they real books.
I think if I gave this a second reading I would understand it more, but I don’t really like it enough to do that. I’m almost 90% finished so I may as well just finish it. I’m just curious what other experiences readers have had.
