So I am in my gothic romance era. I finished Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights and they are favorites now. I searched for “smilar” modern books and I got Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia.
In my personal opinion, the book resembles a Hollywood movie with superficial characters, I particularly hated the main character. The dialogues felt meaningless, without any depth or uniqueness. The book, overall, lacked a soul and failed to leave a lasting impression—it’s easily forgettable.
Despite considering not finishing it, I gave it a chance, hoping for a plot development, given the widespread recommendations.
I’m interested in hearing your opinions, whether positive or negative. Thank you.
