I feel like a lot of people I talk to re read their favorite books. My wife reads ACOTAR and the minute she puts down the last one she picks up the first one again lol.

She says she loves the story so much it’s her comfort read. Which I get, but in my opinion there is so much out there to read that I couldn’t re read something again. I try re reading stuff before a new book sequel comes out but most of the time I’ll just read the synopsis or do a deep dive on theories again before I read the new one. How often/what’re your opinions on re reading books?

Note: I used to re read books A LOT. HP #7, inheritance cycle, and Percy Jackson were the only books I owned growing up so I re read those a lot but since I became an adult reader I rarely re read

My comfort read is Fantasticland. I listen to the audiobook at night while I’m going to sleep.

I don’t reread a lot, but I also am not sure that we should yuck other people’s yum. What they do doesn’t really affect our reading.

Almost never. The only books I have ever re-read are LotR and The Dark Tower. I went almost 20 years between readings of LotR and 10 years between The Dark Tower.

I would guess that at least a quarter of what I read a year is either a reread or a new release from a favorite author.

Once a year I reread the Repairman Jack series by F. Paul Wilson, the Matador series by Steve Perry, Travis McGee by John McDonald. And I still find time to read a lot of other books, currently reading the ACOTAR series, on book 4.

Never. Too many books too little time. I know people who re read the Harry Potter series every year though but that’s likely due to the touch of the tism.

I reread Jurassic Park a dozen times when I was a kid. Picked it up a few years ago and noped right out of it, just like with King’a Dark Tower series. The writing was atrocious. It didn’t tarnish the memory for me, but I didn’t want to chance it.

As an adult, World War Z has been a huge comfort read for me. Haven’t picked it up since covid kicked off because it lines up too well, but I’m pretty confident the writing will continue to hold up.

Throughout my life, I’ve also gone back to a lot of the same comics and they’ve consistently brought me joy. Frank Miller’s Batman (Year One and DKR) and Watchmen are a few always at the forefront of my mind. I also started building a collection of favorites this past year so have been rereading Preacher (major comfort read) and Scott Snyder’s Batman.

I guess from my experience then, I’d theorize that MMMV but if I put down something decades ago that I loved, there’s a stronger chance I’d see its flaws and be bothered by them than with something I’ve continued to go back to pretty regularly from time to time.
