*In the Distance* is a fantastic take on a western novel. I started reading it on a Friday and finished it on the next Monday, which is considerably faster than I normally read novels.
Without spoiling anything, it is unquestionably a reimagining of Shelley’s Frankenstein. It’s not quite that straightforward, but that’s one of the reasons that *In the Distance* stands on its own as a great novel. Frankenstein has been reimagined many times by many authors, of course, but this take is different. It felt completely new.
