I’m most of the way through Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and I feel like I’ve given this series as much as a go as I can.

I read the first 4 books in high school back in 2008-09 and started up again this year. I always feel the need to finish something from start to finish, but this series just doesn’t grip me. As a teenager I’d see how it would spark the imagination but as a man in his 30s it feels kind of childish and cheesy at times. There’s too many British words and phrases that I don’t care to add to my vocabulary.

I feel kind of guilty but I have to be far my selective as to how I spend my time as an adult and listen to my mind when it tells me something feels like a chore. I think I’m just going to watch all the movies and read some summaries on the rest of the series and continue with things more to my tune like Game of Thrones.

What about all of you, though? What series did you give an honest try and told yourself that you’re going to have to move onto something else?

    1. I’ve tried and failed The Wheel of Time at least twice. The lack of character development and story progress just kills any desire to continue.
