Something I liked about The Green Mile by Stephen King, The Shape of Water by Guillermo del Toro and Daniel Kraus and Boy Swallows Universe by Trent Dalton is that the magical realism is used to do good for other characters.
Are there other books that do this?
These are the only books with magical realism that I’ve read. I didn’t even know what it was until after reading the first two.
Edit: I’m not very picky. If you can recommend a book about helping people which isn’t done through magical realism, I’ll read it. I’ll also read magical realism books on a related topic.

You might like *A Prayer for Owen Meany* by John Irving. It’s not your typical magical realism book, but I think it fits your criteria.
Life of Pi. The cat and the boy to some extent help each other stay alive in a boat.
Pratchett comes to mind.
Anything with the witches.
Most of their “magic” is just a belief in our common humanity and caring for people.
Maybe Legion or The Reckoners series. Both by Brandon Sanderson.
Both feel like they meet the magical realism criteria. Both are kiiiind of about helping others.
