I’m a moderately slow reader, and life is short, as this subreddit’s motto would have us remember. I’m French and live in a Paris suburb. I don’t know about you and where you live, but my area’s streets seem to be very fecund as far as books go. There is not a week passing by without me finding at least a pair of books in the wild. I’m not talking about a shredded piece of piss-soaked remnant of what used to be a book. I’m talking about clean, sometimes as good as new books. Even some in English, which is very cool since I like to practice and improve my understanding of the language of the perfidious Albion.
There are those nice free libraries in old pieces of furniture, more or less respected by the general public, there are those cardboard boxes full of unwanted books left on the sidewalk after someone moved, and the occasional shops getting rid of their stuff too.
Yesterday I told my boy the probabilities were high that I would die before reading all the books stacked in the living room. And I’m a fairly moderate hoarder.
The only “bad side” of this is that I don’t help the book market because I very seldom spend any money on it.
