Recently I was playing Alan Wake 2, and all the talk about the game aside, it made me want to read some novels in what Alex Casey stories are supposed to be in the game world.

So I wanted to ask for some recommendations for some hard boiled neo-noir detective stories. Preferrably set in New York, but it is not mandator. I would also prefer a longer series of books, but I am happy to accept also recommendations for stand-alone novels. I am looking for dark, gritty, grim investigatiors and cities drowned in rain.

    1. What about Harlem Shuffle by Colson Whitehead? It’s kind of hard boiled in style and is about crime. Not super noir, but really fun. Alternatively try An Honest Living by Dwyer Murphy. Both set in NY.

    2. Check out books by Lawrence Block books for gritty noir style NY crime. His Matt Scudder series was popular and you could realistically just hop in wherever you like if a particular synopsis catches your eye.
