So I got out of a slump not too long ago thanks to Serafina and the Black Cloak (Highly recommend if you love middle grade) and I’m also re reading Percy Jackson as a physical book. Going to switch to the sequel to Serafina after Percy then after the Serafina Sequel, switch back to Percy so I have that settled. I’m Listening to The Outsider by Stephen King on Audio and I’m LOVING it!
My problem, I want a book to read on my phone, but I’m so overwhelmed by choice and I’m a little in the mood for everything, I guess because it’s been so long. Anyways, what do you do if you are a mood reader and want to read all the things.
If you aren’t a mood reader, how do you decide what you’re going to read next?
(Also my attention span won’t let me read just one book at a time) I have a physical book I read before bed to help me sleep, a book on my phone to read when I feel like reading but don’t want to sleep yet or I’m out and about, and an Audiobook when I’m doing things with my hands like cleaning, driving, or cross stitching.
For some reason I find myself more drawn to audio books rn and so the Outsider is the only book I’ve consistently put time in. But I also want to actually read and not just listen lol.

I go to my TBR pile and just see which book is giving off the best vibes.
I look at the New York Times best sellers and then read a synopsis of the book to see if I like it..
I have several books, and at least one audiobook in progress at any given time and pick up the one I’m in the mood for each moment. If one isn’t ever getting picked up after a while I decide it’s not the right time or if I should admit it’s not ever going to happen.
I use a randomizer. I read whatever the randomizer says, unless I really really really don’t want to.
I’m a bit of a mood reader but can go either way. So my strategy is that I have a TBR of books I’m particularly excited about (it’s over 100 lol) that’s just a numbered list, when I’m ready for new books (I usually check out 5-10 from the library at a time) I’ll either use a random number generator or copy and paste the list into ChatGPT and ask it to make me a next-up list with a variety of moods and genres (sometimes I’ll ask it to generate a few more if I don’t love what it gave me). Then I’ll read that bundle of books in whatever order I’m feeling!
