I had recently this experience with “Ugly swans” by Strugatsky. There was heavy rain both outside my window and on the pages of the story. At some point the plot became so intense, I couldn’t look away and my heart started beating very fast.
I had the same surge of adrenaline reading Lovecraft and Poe’s stories. It’s a fun feeling. I would like to read more books that can give you spooks like that. What is your experience with literature like that?
