So I understand if no one can help me but I was never a big reader until I found this one book it was about this group of people from all walks of life that went to space to some planet on a ship and mined this black “element” and they could use it for whatever they could think of like telepathy they even used it for ear peices that let them understand each other because they spoke different languages and this was important because they met other intelligent life forms that were far superior and also used this “element” as weapons to defend themselves and that’s about all I know about the book I’m sorry but I just need help finding it because I want to get back to reading it and I know it was a series and I only read the first one
