F. Paul Wilson. Whenever his name crosses readers minds two series from come to mind: The Adversary Cycle and Repairman Jack. And tonight I finished a novel from the latter series “Lagacies”.
Pediatrician Alicia Clayton, who specialty is treating children with AIDS, is a woman who is full of secrets, and just recently inherited a house that also holds a secret.
Alicia is haunted by very painful memories, and she wants the house itself to be destroyed. But for horrifying reasons whoever she hires for help winds up being violently killed.
The house itself is holding a very powerful secret, a secret that Alicia’s charmless half brother Thomas will go to great lengths to get his hands on. Not unless Jack Repairman Jack can get to it first.
Jack is a very interesting character in this series. He is more than some average appliance repairman that he appears to be. Far from it. He also fixes peoples situations, even at the risk of his own life. He has no last name to speak of and also no social security number. He only works for cash only with no qualms about seeing the job being done.
“Legacies” is one of many novels in the Repairman Jack series. This one is a really good thriller that treads on some really dark topics, with a smidge of science fiction put into it. Have been meaning to read some of Wilson’s work for quite a while, and now that I have, I am ready for more!
