I guess the most natural question is how do you manage to reserve some time for reading? I used to read before going to bed, now evenings are really busy and I barely get to read few pages. I follow this full time worker mom on good reads that managed to read 70+ books last year, quite an achievement, I must say.
The second aspect is about preferences. In my case, suddenly I found myself reading more about brain development, neuroscience, education and future generations. Although sci-fi will always have a place in my library.
Whats is your experience ?

I read on my phone and then bought a kindle because it’s hard to read on your phone. I only started reading physical books again recently.
I sit with my newborn and read to them what I’m reading out loud. They will hear the language and see my mouth moving, they emulate the moving mouth. Obviously they don’t know what I’m saying, but it exposes them to a lot of words that they wouldn’t otherwise hear. It also cultivates an early love for books. My daughter runs to grab a book and sits next to me when it’s time to read.
I am currently reading against the day aloud to my newborn son.
I read a ton when my son was newborn and I was on maternity leave. He nursed very frequently, and for long periods of time, so I would read on my kindle as I nursed. It was nice
I read to relax and I found I read a lot more when I had new babies because I was stressed out. Maybe it’s the types of books you are reading that are putting you to sleep? A more exciting book might have you reading more than a few pages.
My husband and I were very good at communicating when we needed a break or time to ourselves. Often I spent that time reading.
I use audiobooks. Then I have a physical book for when my kid is playing independently and an e-reader for when he wants me to sit in his room with him until he falls asleep. I read when I have moments during the day and at night after he goes to bed.
Audiobooks really carried me through the first two years. Around 18-24 months his sleep got a lot better so I have more time in the evenings to read.
I read a lot of thrillers when my daughter was a baby, I simply didn’t have the mental capacity for anything more complicated than the average Jack Reacher book.
Stop following people and comparing yourself to them. Influencer mom could be lying for all you know.
When my son was a newborn I would read while he was eating or napping. Now that he’s almost 2 I read when he’s napping and I’ll listen to audiobooks while he’s playing on his own. When he was a little younger I would read whatever I was reading aloud to him and he really enjoyed that.
