Not fussed if it’s a tropical setting or a cold fishing village…I just want to be immersed in the smells, sights and sounds of the ocean. Tropical pirates…fine. Maritime sailing adventure… fine.
Preferably has romance and a strong male lead.
No sad endings.

Lucy by the Sea by Elizabeth Strout. It is the fourth in a group of companion books, but can be read as a stand alone. It’s a pandemic novel.
Elin Hilderbrand sets many of her novels in Nantucket. Additionally the Paradise trilogy is set in St. John. A tiny bit thriller a lot of little romances- very much an escape/summer beach read style.
The shipping news and the thousand autumns of Jacob de Zoet both come to mind
