**I’M NOT ASKING FOR MONEY. Please read this in it’s entirety before you report me to a mod. Also… mods, i love you please be cool.**
I’m a hearing person. About 7 months ago I started learning American Sign Language (ASL) so that someday I could make my work accessible to all people in my community, including Deaf and Hard of Hearing people in Seattle. I sign every day, sometimes for hours a day. It’s my opinion that sign language is something everyone should know. For accessibility issues, but also, you’ll find usages for it in your lives (you can sign in movie theatres and not interrupt people, you can communicate with people far away… you can talk about people sitting next to you in resteraunts and laugh at them for trying to bring back mullet haircuts).
Anyway, flash forward, months of intensive ASL practice and I’m introduced to my deaf friend, for the purposes of this post they will remain anonymous. We’ve become great friends and we sign together every day typically. My friend is an adult who never got to finish the Animorph books when they were a kid, and their deafness contributes to ongoing financial challenges in their life. I really don’t want to say more than this in order to respect their privacy and protect their identity. Disabled humans are vulnerable humans. I know, because I am one (different story, this isn’t about me though. no i’m not Deaf).
I started a local fund raising effort in the seattle area in an attempt to gather these books for my friend and Seattle really showed up and helped! Some folks offered me giftcards for thriftbooks and cash donations, and folks in the ASL-learning community also donated cash to me and i was able to pull some of the books together! No, i don’t want your money. I just want these books. Keep reading.
using the pool’d funds, and after visiting 11 used book stores and goodwill stores allover washington state i’ve pulled together most of the main series, and a few of the megamorphs/alternamorphs etc but of course i’m missing some.
I currently need books;
* 42, 44, 46, 47, 50, 51, 52, 53
If you have these books and you’re willing to donate them to my friend, you get to go to heaven!
Proof, questions you may have, things i’m aware of etc 🙂
[https://imgur.com/a/83QfUCw](https://imgur.com/a/83QfUCw)\- proof that i opened a local fundraiser in seattle for this
[https://imgur.com/a/VFR6anT](https://imgur.com/a/VFR6anT) \- proof of the collection so far, and a receipt from one of the many bookstores i visited is in this image. my username is written on the receipt and so is today’s date.
Apparition Books in renton washington state was a store i hit in my quest. Call them and ask if a tall fat guy recently came in and bought a shit load of the animorph books they had in stock. ask them if i mentioned why i was buying them. This was around Jan 5th so hopefully the dood still remembers me.
I’m using my real name. I’m a working comic in seattle. If this is a scam, destroy my reputation.
I’m aware the books are available as PDFs. I’m doing everything i can do get the actual books for my friend. They deserve to have a childhood wish fulfilled. Printing this is an absolute last resort.
Poverty plays a role in both of our lives, or i would just stomach the cost and buy the books out of pocket. Disabled people are poor typically. i’ve looked on thriftbooks websites, ebay, and called bookstores allover Washington state, and neighboring states. the books in the 40’s numberes are so pricey (new, used, even severly damaged they’re so pricey) but i’m so close to finishing this gift.
DM, Comment, Whatever! Help me get these! Those who give me books; i may be able to send you a private youtube link to a video of my friend opening/unboxing the books and your username/name (if you want) will be included in a thank-you in that video, but it would be in sign language of course 🙂
