As I continue going through my notes and transfer them to digital form, I’ll share a few with you all. Here are a few that I took from my reading of The Longevity Code: The New Science of Aging. Feel free to PM me for non-fiction book suggestions or send me book suggestions!
Current life expectancy increases by 6 hours each day.
One reason why coffee is healthy is because it contains mildly toxic substances that activate an alarm protein called NRF2 in our cells. When NRF2 detects these mildly toxic plant substances in the coffee, it travels to the DNA in the cell nucleus where it starts up the production of our own body antioxidant and detoxification proteins. Detoxification proteins are activated because the cells want to eliminate these mildly toxic substances as quickly as possible. The liver in particular starts producing these detoxification proteins. At the same time, the liver then cleans up other substances that are much more toxic than those in coffee. These substances would otherwise harm the body increasing our risk of cancer and aging related diseases. Hence, coffee has a detoxifying effect.
Continuous exposure to a small amount of radioactivity can be healthy in theory because radioactivity slightly damages the cells so that they arm and protect themselves against this as well as other kinds of damage.
Metformin, a medication derived from the plant known as Goat’s Rue, is special because it is one of the few medications that can extend the lifespan and slow down the aging process in various species of animals. In humans, this medication can not only prevent or slow down the progression of type II diabetes, but also decrease the risk of other age-related diseases such as heart attach and Parkinson’s disease.
Another great book I can recommend on this topic is Lifespan by David Sinclair. Feel free to PM me any non-fiction book suggestions!
