It may be a long shot here as I seldom see his name mentioned, but really, no other author has had the psychological impact on me as has Hermann Hesse. Can anyone direct me to any more contemporary author’s works that can stand beside Narcissus and Goldmund, Damien, Steppenwolf, Siddhartha, etc? I think if you are a fan you will know what I am looking for. Thanks!
Otherwise, I guess that there are plenty that I can reread.

Maybe Rainer Maria Rilke’s *Letters to a Young Poet*?
Martin Buber. Tales of the Hasidim. “When in 1948…Hermann Hesse nominated Buber for a Nobel Prize in Literature, he claimed that by his tales of the Hasidim, Buber had enriched world literature as had no other living person.” I find Buber’s version of these tales in the same vein as some of Hesse’s fiction.
