Has anyone read the Empire of the Wolf by Richard Swan?
I loved the first book and am 3/4 of the way through book 2 and just feel very confused.
>!The first book it feels as though Helena has been with Vonvalt for awhile, seemingly since she was a young teen, since he saved her off the streets as an orphan and then what feels like months of events happen, she experiences her first real love, etc. etc. she reads overall to me as a 15-16 year old throughout this book. My assumption was that she had been with him for a number of years at this point being trained as his assistant etc.
I started in on book 2 and there’s no time gap between the books, but suddenly she’s lusting after Vonvalt who was involved in the war which killed her parents as a Justice, implying he’s at least enough older than her to have already been trained etc. Then you find out Vonvalt only saved her from the streets 2.5 years ago which doesn’t seem like enough time for her to be the adult she is now being treated as or for her to develop the bonds she seemingly has with the other characters in the retinue (her and Bressinger being as close as siblings) and then Vonvalt admits it was his intention to court her!<
I just feel like the timelines are terrible and make very little sense and need to know if it’s worth just finishing the series to see what happens?
