As a 17 year old, I grew up immersed into the age of dystopian novels. My favorites ranged from Percy Jackson, Hunger Games, Maze Runner, I am number 4, Divergent, etc. (like many others my age).
However, when I try expanding my list of genres, I cant help but get bored. I feel like fantasy books carry so much more creativity and do a really good job of transporting me into another dimension. I struggle a lot with getting over this mindset, and the only others books I have found intriguing that were not fantasy was murder mystery books that took place in high school. I cant seem to find any interest in a book when the protagonist is an adult older than 25.
I want to conquer this hurdle because I feel like my taste is extremely childish (which it is), but I can’t seem to move past it.
Please leave any recommendations! 🙂

Why not try some adult fantasy or sci-fi first? Can’t say much about fantasy, but I used to love the Sector General series when I was younger. It’s a bunch of fun, creative novels about a hospital that serves all kinds of aliens. The Strugatsky brothers also have some readable fun options. Some people enjoy Lem.
Military fiction shares quite a few features with dystopian fantasy IMO, but it’s a bit trickier to recommend since the subject is so heavy.
