Just finished I Am Legend and thoroughly enjoyed it; especially the ending with Robert’s perspective being changed up to see this new society in the same state he was in at the start of the book.
I enjoyed the elements of loneliness, Robert’s inner dialogue and trying to figure stuff out, Ben Cortman was a very interesting character to follow through Robert’s eyes, every reveal was done so in such a way that made me really think about it.
The reveal of “living vampires” having psychological effects aside from the need to consume blood was one of the most interesting things for me and I thoroughly enjoyed the sort of breakdown of an ancient myth in a more modern world.
Is there anything that might scratch every one of those itches? Perhaps several different recommendations? I’d prefer to keep some action or excitement, apocalypses are fun but not necessary. Wasn’t sure what flair to use for this one.
Thanks!

Glad you enjoyed it! I loved it myself for pretty much the same reasons you’ve outlined – reading it after watching the film made me realise I was right in thinking the film really wasn’t that good.
So, some recommendations for you:
The Road – Cormac McCarthy (If you enjoy this, thoroughly recommend reading his other work, especially No Country for Old Men).
The Stand – Stephen King (quite a lengthy read but worth it. Made me appreciate him and since then, have been on a massive binge of his horror work).
The Passage – Justin Cronin (if you enjoy this, read through the trilogy).
Station Eleven – Emily Mandel
And an absolute must read – Day of the Triffids (yes, killer plants seems a bit daft doesn’t it? Nope. It’s actually a really clever read and goes more into societal breakdown).
I could recommend more, but that’s a start.
