Hello Everyone!
Getting back into reading this year. Compiling a list of books to read.I’m looking for any novel(s) that you think best embodies the social and cultural attitudes/trends of the 21st century (90s to 2020s), particularly among millennials and Gen-Z’ers. I know that there are many themes to be said that cannot be adequately addressed in a single novel. Moreover I understand there is a wide plurality of cultures and perspectives in vogue that would qualify as capturing the zeitgeist of the current generations. And so, I’m open to reading multiple books if need be. Open to non-fiction if need be, but preferably not.
If it helps, I’m looking for a modern-day equivalent to War & Peace (for Napoleonic-Era Russia), Dostoevsky (for late-19th century Russia), and Grapes of Wrath (for exemplifying the so-called “American” spirit in the Depression-Era). As someone who’s lived under the rock for many years, I’m hoping that I can learn about the times and people I live among, and relate more with them (which, of course, I can also develop by being out there talking to people).
Thank you all for the suggestions!
