I just finished The Winners by Backman and I have mixed feelings. I liked many parts (I was impressed by the story of Ruth and Matteo, Mumble), but I thought it was developed in too many directions. Pages and pages again about the marriage of Kira and Peter after pages and pages in the previous books.
Also, I didn’t really understand the introduction of Big City. I presume he was meant to be Benji’s last love, I get it, but that didn’t happen and, frankly, Big City seemed to be having to much depth, like someone after many years of therapy and much older.
One other thing is that Benji’s dialogues seemed unnatural, like he was already expecting death.
I was expecting a few lines about David who cared deeply about Benji.
Any other thoughts?

I thought it was his weakest work by far and really needed an active editor.
