I am an engineer in research. Going to take a stay-home vacation of two weeks. Among other things, I have realized that my grasp of history is not great. Please suggest me 3-4 books on the following:
* a good overview of human civilization
* a good overview of colonialism and slave trade
* a good book covering WW2 + holocaust
* major contours of geopolitics since 1945.
Thanks a lot.

It may be older than you’re looking for, but I love recommending *The With Hunts* by Robert Thurston. It’s a history of the European and North American Witch Hunts in the 15th-18th centuries. As far as an overview of human civilization, this is a pretty good look at how people, at least people in the “west” have treated each other through the years, and acts as a good reminder that, in someone’s eyes, everyone is an “other”
