Just finished the goldfinch by Donna Tartt. I have mixed emotions.

The first half to 2/3rd of the book I couldn’t pull myself away, it one of those books that just let’s you into someone’s seemingly ordinary life of living as someone less fortunate. Sometimes I love the dull stuff.

I did find it longer than it needed to be, sometimes the monologues Theo’s mind went on seemed to drag on too much, with a lot of unnecessary words to get a picture across (though I’m not a huge fan of that kind of writing, each to their own), it was still very beautifully written and I can see the meaning in the words. And though i loved Boris’s character, his grown character kind of became a pain in the ass with how much he’d waffle on about things and never provide much detail about what happened to him in the time Theo and him spent apart, I wish we got to hear more about Boris’s teenage-adult life!
I never got that “connected through shared life experience and lonely childhood” relationship feeling in their interactions as adults which was a bummer because I think it was supposed to be there?

Overall it was a pretty decent book, though I probably wouldn’t re-read it just due to sheer size. Just wanna hear some other thoughts about it!
