hi! not actually sure if the 1300s is considered ancient but…. i just finished the “she who became the sun” series – and have realized i appear to have a pattern or interest in books about ancient warfare. i also love fantasy and reading about monks. can be more or less historically accurate but i appreciate a bit of history to tie into the story.

some books i have enjoyed recently include legend of the condor heroes (i have reread this one multiple times), the poppy wars, the water outlaws, tales of the otori, and china (by edward rutherfurd). i have a few others on my list but am waiting for the sequels before starting the series. would appreciate any suggestions! thanks

Under heaven by guy gavriel kay. I’ve not read much of it yet, but it is set in a fictional world inspired by the Tang dynasty 618–907 in China.

    3. The Grace of Kings by Ken Liu. It’s very fantastical and not meant to be about any specific historical event, but I’ve read it was loosely inspired by the rise of the Han dynasty and the author [combined a lot of elements of ancient Asian cultures](https://kenliu.name/books/what-is-silkpunk/) as well as Western epic narratives to write this series.

More leaning towards Central Asia but check out the Eternal Sky trilogy by Elizabeth Bear, starts with *Range of Ghosts* – same goes for the Ascendant trilogy by K Arsenault Rivera, starts with *The Tiger’s Daughter*.
