I read the book Unwind by Neal Shusterman at around 17. I’m 34 now and I still often think of it. It imagines a world where abortion became completely illegal throughout the US, but in exchange, parents can opt for “post-natal abortion” from a young age up to age 18, wherein the children are “unwound” and every part of them is taken for organ banks. It explores all the many avenues in which this is a horrifying non-solution.

Dawn by Octavia E. Butler
Normal People by Sally Rooney. I read it before the tv show came out and it always stuck with me.
The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin

The Road by Cormac McCarthy
Zombie by Joyce Carol Oates.
The first haunted me but also moved me. The latter just haunted me.
