Weird request, I know, but hear me out. I got absolutely smashed about by a runaway drunk driver and to say my brain got rattled is an understatement. The meds I’m on for epilepsy for life kinda prove that. So. I have days where reading is incredibly tough. Words can swim, I have to go back a chapter and reread a fair bit (which sucks beyond the telling, I was a speed reader.) and the meds make things fuzzy. So. If you had to go back, to a book for an adult, that can be reread in bits if needed, to relearn and regain what you once had – what would it be? What book would you suggest if you knew you were having to restart, what would it be? (I also LOST a lot of the books I read. Whole blanks where they lived in my brain.) As you can tell, I can write (if you knew how many times I have to use backspace, I’ve had to get new keyboards because I kill the dang thing and this is a good day. I have days I couldn’t string this together.) and I’m getting reading back. BUT – if you had to utterly restart your reading adventure, what book would you want, what book could you stand rereading chunks? A genie walks up to you and boom, all the books you have read have just exited your brain – what do you reach for first?

    1. The Discworld books. Simple, funny and smart. The jokes come so fast that I, as a speedreader, frequently miss them. I think they would be enjoyable read in small chunks.

Maybe simple mystery books, like Agatha Christie? She wrote short stories, too, so you could start with that.

What about your favorite books from childhood?

Roald Dahl also wrote a lot of shorter books that would be super entertaining, and readable in short bursts.

I think you’ll get it back slowly but surely, as your brain “rehabs.” Sounds like a terrible accident, but we’re all glad you’re still here and still with us.
