Hello! I am looking for some supernatural murder mysteries, where the entire cast of characters are either human or some sort of supernatural creature. For example, a werewolf on the police force who uses his nose to better gather evidence because he can sniff it out, or a banshee who screams just before each murder occurs and the police are like “okay there’s only so far away the killer can be” kind of thing. I’m not really looking for books where it’s like all these people are dying and plot twist, it was a vampire.

Unsure if anything like what I want to read exists bc I cannot find anything in my library’s catalog but it doesn’t hurt to ask

The Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood/Southern Vampire Mysteries series. Charlaine Harris has other series besides that one, but I’m not sure if they have murder mysteries.

The Dresden Files (personally not a fan)

I’m fairly sure that a decent number of the Anita Blake books have some kind of murder mystery. ETA: These get pretty spicy, especially later on.

I’m sure there’s more, those are off the top of my head. Try searching for “paranormal fiction murder mysteries”. They won’t all be werewolves and vampires, but *a lot* of them will be, so it can get kind of boring.

    2. Have you read Kim Harrison’s **The Hollows** series? Witches, demons, elves, werewolves, vampires…The Federal Inderlander Bureau, or F.I.B., is the human-run side of the law, whilst the Inderland Security (I.S.) controls the non-human side of business. This is where our heroine comes in. Rachel Morgan is white witch, and a bounty hunter (or runner) for the I.S. It’s a great series and I think it fits with what you’re looking for – mystery with a cast of supernaturals.

    3. All of Tana French books have a supernatural/creepy vibe but they are firmly placed in our real world so it might not fully work for you.

Dresden files as others have mentioned would be a good series to try. Please note the books really ramp up/improve after book 3.

The Chicagoland Vampire series by Chloe Neill. Has much more than just vampires, too.

I always recommend ‘The Lord of the Rings’ by J.R.R. Tolkien to anyone looking to be immersed in an epic fantasy adventure. Tolkien’s Middle-earth is a masterclass in world-building, complete with its own languages, races, and a battle between the forces of good and evil that has become the blueprint for modern fantasy.
