This post is inspired by a recent purchase of mine

I was at my local used book store the other day and grabbed some new reads, one of which specifically being this book:

    *Brightly Burning*
/The legendary story of Herald Lavan Firestorm/
    By Mercedes Lackey

Published by a company called Daw Books, Inc. printed in 2001

Let it be known I’m so far thoroughly enjoying the story itself; I have no complaints about this fun, high fantasy adventure so far. The pacing is good, it reads nostalgically, and I’m interested in seeing where this is all going.

That being said, I’m on chapter four and I have genuinely come across at least five errors. Whether it’s a spelling mistake (like “nade” when they clearly mean “made”), syntax (such as incorrect/juvenile use of quotations for speech, which happened twice), or a description error (like a character being described as having “mud coloured” eyes and in the very next sentence they’re gray), to name a few, it’s frequent enough that I’m… concerned?

I don’t know how else to describe it. It takes me out of my groove! Lol I’ve always been good at finding mistakes in books but this is just too much, it feels so silly! Is this really a good company? Were they ever? Why so many mistakes?

I’m currently pretending that this is the result of a nepotism hire at the company and the editor was just someone’s niece or nephew

Anyone else have any books in their lives that are just terribly edited?

    Edit: Ironically, spelling!
