Hello! I’d appreciate any book recommendations that feature a female lead and aren’t centered around romance? I’m not opposed to romance in the books, I just can’t fully immerse myself into something that’s super hetero since I’m queer. I just got a kindle for Christmas and I’d like to add some good fantasy books on there! Dark themes, morally gray characters are welcome. Something targeted for adults instead of teens please.

Some of my favorite books I read last year were Wild and Wicked Things by Francesca Miller, the Burning Kingdoms Trilogy and Criers War.

    1. I don’t read much fantasy, but *Dark Places* by Gillian Flynn is an excellent female-driven mystery. (It is very explicit and not for the faint of heart tho)

Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree and The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune are both excellent lgbtqa+ cozy fantasy books.

The Tidings of Misfits by Jordan Dugdale is inspired by DnD, it’s a fun fantasy adventure, no romance but does have queer and morally grey characters. This one is on Kindle Unlimited.

Even Though I Knew the End by CL Polk is a fantasy meets noir detective book. The main relationship is wlw. It’s a fun short read.

Nettle and Bone by T Kingfisher. This one technically has a hetero romance but it’s so barely a focus that I wouldn’t even call it a subplot.

Bunny by Mona Awad is so good and strange. Not a fantasy novel but elements of magical realism, I guess you would call it?
