I’ve been through some medical stuff recently that has left me with brain fog and I can’t seem to concentrate for very long at the moment.

I want to get back into reading, its been too long since I touched a book.

I need something short, simple, doesn’t need to be award winning, best book you’ve ever read, just something to get the ball rolling again.

Not a big fan of crime/thrillers but anything else is fair game.

    1. {{The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han}} – it’s YA, so easy to digest and fairly short

There is a series of books by Lillian Jackson Braun. The titles all start out with The Cat Who … They are light reading and I’ve found them to be very entertaining. They are usually murder mysteries about a woman and her cat who solve things. They are kind of humorous and they are not gruesome. None of the books are very lengthy. Which reminds me, I should start rereading some of these.

    3. Convenience Store Woman is short and easy I think.

Same for An Elderly Lady is Up to No Good though I guess it has a crime eliminate to it? But not like what you think.

Carl Hiaasen’s books for adults are really fun and easy! Skinny Dip and Squeeze Me were two I enjoyed.

Terrace Story by Hilary Leichter is really short and compelling.

Hello Beautiful by Ann Napolitano is sort of Little Women adjacent, really sweet. Not anything earth shattering but I enjoyed the read.

If you’re having trouble paying attention (me when I’m sick), short stories might be a good option—Self-Help by Lorrie Moore and Drinking Coffee Elsewhere by ZZ Packer are classic, Daddy by Emma Cline and Ghost Lovers by Lisa Taddeo are both dark/funny.

I write book recs every week (https://missedconnection.substack.com/) and love answering this question! Strongly believe not every book needs to be life changing.
