Hi all, I’m wanting to do some writing involving psychiatric hospitals and was looking for books that would provide insight on that kind of environment. I’m most wanting to get an idea of what the day to day operations and experience of being institutionalised is, getting an understanding of what somebody does in there and how a particular person felt about it. I’m most looking for books from a patient perspective, however books from staff or other affiliated people would be useful to. I’m also looking for books that are fairly modern, accounting for any developments hospitals have had over the years. Any books that are from the perspective of people with schizophrenia would also especially be appreciated.

    1. The Great Pretender by Susannah Calahan was a really interesting read about how psychiatric care has been developed and what its been like for people to be institutionalised.
