This may be a lot more niche than I thought it would be, but can I get recommendations for British Crime novels that aren’t detective stories or murder mysteries? I suppose I’m looking for a British counterpart to Elmore Leonard (although I appreciate the detective element to a lot of his work).

B. Vine, King Solomon’s carpet
You might try William Macilvanney – his work falls on a spectrum from social realism to noir crime and it’s not always clear which he’s doing. The puzzle element isn’t important.
