At the start of 2024, once the Willey version of Mickey Mouse enters the public domain, my VFX friend mentioned he was planning to create an original cartoon and release it on YouTube. I simply laughed and returned home.Subsequently, as I resumed reading the One Piece Manga….
a thought struck me:
“Would it be profitable and feasible to adapt public domain fiction books into graphic novels and initially sell them as e-books?”
My reasoning was grounded in the fact that certain genres—particularly superhero, fantasy, horror, and science fiction—benefit greatly from visual representation and are often more engaging when presented in a drawn format. Moreover, I considered that the chosen books should not have any existing movie adaptations.
Furthermore, I realized that children over the age of seven would likely enjoy these graphic novels. Selling the content as e-books could also minimize financial risks, as there would be no printing costs involved. Of course, I am conscious of the design expenses, but the potential use of AI text-to-image systems might help decrease some of these costs.I would appreciate your thoughts on this concept.
