I just finished TSH with a friend, it was phenomenal and after reading hoards of reviews on threads recommending books similar to TSH, it feels like the book had explored the peak of what the genre has had to offer. However, we’ve both already purchased The Basic Eight by Daniel Handler (before reading The Secret History haha) for our mini two person book club, so we’re deciding to plow on.

My question is, for people who’ve read both books, how similar are they? Is TBE enjoyable if I were to go into it expecting A Series of Unfortunate Events written for adults? I know every dark academia book under the sun is inevitably compared to TSH, so I feel a bit dejected we’ve finished the “peak” of this genre. I’ve also read Bunny by Mona Awad, and thought it was very, very lackluster and annoying to read.
