Just wanting to understand the whole LGBTQ and gender discussion background better so she doesn’t have to feel like she’s teaching everyone everything all the time. The news is over-politicizing any information online and it’s super frustrating to me thanks
I’ve gotten her makeup and perfume and things like that but I don’t know how much she really likes it. She wears eyeliner and colored hair but not so much of anything else “girly”. She’s a little androgynous, she’s really into video games and the music scene. I just don’t know if that’s because of an imposter syndrome or not and I don’t want every interaction to be about gender but I still would like to learn

She’s cis, I’ll say that I don’t buy my SO makeup, because that’s usually a very specific preference and it’s very easy to get it wrong unless you’ve had a lot of discussions about it.
It’s fiction, but Seanan McGuire incorporates a lot of trans and gender nonconforming characters into her books and I found it very interesting to read those perspectives.
Pageboy by Elliot Page was good.
Trans manifesto by Shon Faye is the one! Also Juliet Jacques Trans: a memoir. And Juno Dawson has some YA books in case you need a range. But definitely buy the Shon Faye one.
Great suggestions! Adding to cart thanks!
I really liked Transitional by Munroe Bergdorf, if you’re unsure there’s an article about it here which is a good read https://www.cosmopolitan.com/uk/love-sex/relationships/a42915562/munroe-bergdorf-new-book-transitional/
Before We Were Trans by Kit Hayem is great.
And the ABC of LGBT+ by Ashley Mardell is a really good and informative primer
The Gender Games by Juno Dawson is a good read.
Are you all trans? How did family help or how do you wish they helped?
There’s a great little fiction book called Light From Uncommon Stars by Ryka Ayoki that’s very rooted in the trans experience, including trauma and how society pushes against them. It’s also great about having a character that uplifts them and treats them as not just human, but special, and that’s something they didn’t have much of an experience with. It’s also a cool and pretty out there premise that’s really lovely.
